We didn't know this is what Eminem had in mind when he came on board to executive produce the halftime show of the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day game.

The superstar rapper popped up in the middle of Jack White's halftime performance during Thursday's Lions game at Ford Field. The surprise collaboration — the first ever on-stage pairing of the two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers — electrified the live audience inside the stadium and stunned viewers at home as they grazed on Thanksgiving appetizers. Eminem was brought to the stage by White, who introduced "Detroit's own Eminem!" as the opening "left, right, left" chant from Em's "Till I Collapse" rang out across the stadium. Eminem then appeared on a riser from below the stage and joined White, as White and his band cooked up a rock remix of the 2002 "Eminem Show" album cut, mixing it with the White Stripes' 2000 track "Hello Operator."

White, wearing a black leather jacket over an old-school Lions T-shirt with the phrase "Another One Bites the Dust" written on it, grooved with Eminem as a sly smile crept across his face. Em was clad in a white hoodie and a blue Detroit Lions jacket, and was joined by his on-stage hype man, Denaun Porter.

"Detroit! Happy Thanksgiving, y'all," Em yelled to the crowd at the end of his verse, as White got back to his barnburner of a set. He opened it with "That's How I'm Feeling," a ripper from his 2024 solo album "No Name," and then segued into the White Stripes' international stadium anthem "Seven Nation Army" after Eminem exited the stage.

Dozens of fans packed in front of the stage and jumped in unison as the Detroit Lions cheerleaders danced a full choreographed routine to the Grammy-winning song.

"I love you Detroit!" White shouted as he closed out his brief set, which packed all that action into just under 7 minutes.

It was a showstopper performance and a true Detroit moment, with White's garage-y blues and Eminem's motivational anthem complementing each other perfectly. And it turned out better than the game did, with the Lions taking a painful 31-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

"Detroit thank u!!!" Eminem wrote Thursday on Instagram, along with photos from the day, including one of him posing with White. "So great to join @officialjackwhite with @iamdenaun at the @detroitlionsnfl Thanksgiving Halftime Show!"

Among those watching in the audience were Eminem's daughter, Hailie Jade, and Eminem's grandson, Elliot, according to a post from Hailie Jade's Instagram.

"Till I Collapse" was never released as a single but has become one of Eminem's most enduring anthems; on Spotify it's his third most-streamed track, with 2.3 billion plays, placing it just behind "Without Me" and "Lose Yourself."

Earlier this month, the Detroit Lions announced that Eminem and his longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg, were coming on board to executive produce the Lions' Thanksgiving halftime show. The good news for fans? They'll be back: they've got the gig through at least 2027.
